When I first began my unit 8 project, my first objective was to sign up to as many meeting and Feminists events as possible, I used an event website and signed up to an even were women would talk about their experiences with sexual assault and abuse. Unfortunately I was unable to actually go there because it was at 8 to 9pm and place where I had to go to was a place in London where I had not been before. This created a new problem as I had already planned to base my Film on that talk. But because I did not go I had to find a new event to go to, to base my film on. I searched on multiple websites their where no other events within the time that where about women or Feminism. So I decided I would instead have a collection of videos and images from Youtube and edit them and explain them.I was worried about this because of copyright as some of my videos where not my own.
In my documentary there is not a specific type of mood that I want my audience to feel, this is evident throughout the documentary. I quickly change the tempo and mood of my doc by changing the type of scene. Example In the beginning of my documentary the mood is very comical and light, this was done purposely to trick my audience into thinking that this would be a comical doc this then make them feel and ease and relaxed. When I finish my first set of interviews the mood then changes very quickly and it is gloomy and bleak, this catches the audiences attention and the atmosphere becomes very silent and still. I then again immediately change to feminism cringe videos which are comical. But because of the earlier drastic change, the audience can’t again relax throughout my video because they don’t know what is going to happen next. Between each dramatic scene I include scenes of myself in different settings , interviews or pauses. This is done in order so the audience can collect their thoughts after just viewing a (revelation).I faced many challenges when trying to make my film, the main challenge was my lack of resources example I had a lot of time at home where I could not do any work because I do not have Adobe premiere pro or logic. This because very evident when I was trying to get the finishing edits on my film on the last day. I had to download an app on my phone to be able to merge my videos together. If I were to be able to do this again, The main think I would change is my planning and confidence. I would Definitely have liked to be for efficient with my schedules and making sure I actually went through with the planes that I have made.Another thing I would do differently is that I would like to have also changed my planes for example next time I would do my film first and then do all the writing last. Because the writing and explanation can be done at home however you cant do the film editing without the film software. The last problem I faced was with the setting and layout of my work, some documents where on document form on word press, some had no images etc. This caused a lot of inconveniences later because when someone would be looking through my work they would not know whether or not the page was an actual page or just a title and whether the link was a document or image. This later on meant that I had to go through my work again and make sure all my documents and pages had a consistent layout.
I definitely enjoyed the writing and research aspect of my unit 8 project and loved writing my views on different topics, but less enjoyed the editing and filming process.I was far from satisfied with my final piece ( Film) it was much shorter then I intended it to be and was done poorly. I did not go into as much depth as I would have wanted to on my film but I hope I did with my research ( Writing).
Scene 1 ; Feminism cringe
I decided to include a scene where a woman( feminist) was shouting at crowd a people in order to get her points across, to prove how many feminists try to justify and explain their intentions to people. Behind that video I included the soundtrack of our fortuna, which is outrageous when looking at the scene behind it in order to reflect on how also outrageous the woman on the videos behaviour is. I used this scene in order to start my doc as it immediately shows my opinions on Feminism and proves why most of my opinions on Feminism is negative. There are countless videos on YouTube where feminists and shouting at people and arguing with them on very meaningless issues such as whether or not people should be allowed to be obese, them trying to defend the fact that because obese does not automatically mean they are healthy and women who use there beauty to be more successful. When they should be talking about the bigger issues which affect women.
Scene 3 (interviews)
After viewing a dramatic scene I change the mood of the documentary by introducing my first set of interviews, In this scene the audience can only hear the audio and can’t see the people who are being interviewed. I did this because I did not want my audience to concentrate on the appearance of the guests and more so on what they are saying. In my interviews I change from one persons audio to another, this means that the audience hears multiple noises but can’t see the faces this is may be very confusing and uncomfortable for some of my audience. While the interviews are playing the audience can see a black screen, which ever so often shows scenes of London to represent where the interview is being taken place.
I decided the include this scene to show how passionate many women where. The truth is that yes during the 19th and 20th century women did have real issues such as they couldn’t vote and where paid less than men.now not so much I decided to include this scene towards the end of my documentary after my interviews, because I wanted to put my audience on an emotional roller coaster I do this throughout. I wanted to make the atmosphere very silent and melancholy. Because I expect that before this the audience would probably be talking to one another but I want them to reflect on the documentary themselves. This scene is very dramatic and it shows a woman being trampled on by a horse. Many people will find this unsettling and disturbing I want to have a shock factors to my documentary.
